Description:

Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. is seeking a Director of Business Development to oversee the Firm’s overall marketing strategy, client teams, client retention and growth, branding, competitive intelligence, and lawyer marketing training and coaching.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide strategic direction and leadership to the firm’s marketing and business development function.

Help the firm establish and manage client teams to nurture client relationships and develop new business opportunities with existing clients.

Provide business development support, training and coaching for the lawyers to help them achieve business development goals.

Build a high level of awareness of and support for effective marketing and business development efforts at the practice/industry group level; assist in the development and implementation of group plans.

Participate in specific business development opportunities, including responses to RFPs and presentations to existing and potential clients.

Identify and implement client retention and growth strategies, including client interviews and surveys, client forums and client tours and visits.

Manage the firm’s client relationship management (CRM) system (InterAction) to effectively manage client, prospect and referral contacts, mailing lists, and practice/industry group target lists; work with the Database Administrator to generate useful reports.

Manage the firm’s branding program in the marketplace, through advertising, public relations and other communication vehicles, for the firm and certain practice groups; oversee the firm’s advertising, communications and public relations efforts, including advertisements, press releases, article placement, brochures, newsletters, practice group descriptions, attorney bios and the firm’s Web site.

Evaluate and monitor existing business development efforts on an ongoing basis; track practice development activities and expenditures and measure results.

Interact with clients, alone or in conjunction with Lowndes attorneys, in relationship-building and business development forums.

Help prepare proposed annual marketing budgets, review firm, practice/industry group and individual budgets, and oversee monitoring of expenditures against budgets.

Oversee the development and management (at the practice/industry group level) of individual business/career plans.

Work with the community relations liaison to target organizations and individuals for relationship development and to coordinate efforts.

Develop the capability to provide research and competitive intelligence to assist in strategic issues (e.g., planning) and tactical opportunities (e.g., pitches).

Manage, mentor, motivate, evaluate and recruit business development and marketing staff; conduct performance evaluations and determine compensation for department staff.

Work with the Task Force of the Marketing Committee to support the business development components of the strategic plan.

Participate as a contributing member of the Administrative Committee.

Supervise staff of three.


Requirements:

Four-year college degree required with concentration in a related area; advanced degree a plus.

Approximately 10-15 years of progressively more responsible work experience.

Business development experience in a professional services environment; law firm experience preferable.

Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.

Ability to identify and analyze issues and problems in marketing and communication management, and to recommend and implement solutions.

Outstanding presentation and communication skills, both written and oral.

Managerial and supervisory skills necessary to effectively organize, coordinate and supervise appropriate staff.

Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with and effectively follow instructions from a diverse group including clients, attorneys, paralegals and staff.

Active membership in relevant professional organizations, such as the Legal Marketing Association is preferred.
