Description:

Gray Plant Mooty, known as a great firm to work for, is looking for someone to join the collaborative 10-person marketing/business development team. We are seeking a sophisticated professional who can provide strategy as well as implementation, is good at project management and is a self-starter.

The Business Development Manager is responsible for supporting five practice groups, including the firm’s preeminent franchise practice, selected practice/industry teams and their attorneys in developing and delivering strategic marketing and business development plans and programs. The BD Manager will provide marketing and business development support to assist attorneys in the execution of their business development initiatives, including practice group plans, requests for proposals (RFPs), and client presentations.


Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Manage all aspects of business development for select practice groups and teams, including strategic practice planning, and leveraging sponsorships and events by advising attorneys on appropriate follow-up techniques to further develop relationships.
•    Identify and implement new business development initiatives to grow existing client relationships and foster new business relationships for the firm. Provide ongoing coaching related to networking, relationship marketing, and new business development.
•    Support attorneys and supervise staff in preparation of new business proposals, RFP responses, and research.  Responsibilities include the drafting of collateral and creation of customized pitch books and presentations when necessary. 
•    Responsible for maintaining firm’s RFP database and materials library.  Working with the Marketing Communications Manager, develop effective collateral materials and marketing content including capability/office profiles, web content, and maintaining experience databases.
•    Coordinate the gathering and dissemination of attorney and practice group experience for use in business development efforts, directory submissions, and deal/case releases.
•    Manages and helps evaluate marketing and business development-related organizations, memberships, registration and renewals (ACG, MWL, MNACCA, etc.)
•    Work with individuals, client teams, and practice groups to develop tactics for targeting specific clients or industry groups.
•    Assists the Chief Business Development Officer with industry and client team strategy implementation.
•    Work with the Chief Business Development Officer and Sr. Business Development Manager on GPM new business training programs for all attorneys, make presentations, as necessary.
•    Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Business Development Officer.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of one direct report. Also carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the firm's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Requirements:

As a Business Development Manager, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude.  Must have knowledge of core business development principals including RFP response preparation; presentation development, business development training, leadership skills, well developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm; ability to work in a team environment with a client service focus.  Ability to handle projects independently, prioritize workload and solve problems quickly. 

•    BA in Marketing, Communications, or related field required; sales experience a plus
•    5-7 years of previous supervisory/management experience is desired
•    Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
•    Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills
•    Knowledge and understanding of professional services marketing and branding principles and best practices, including experience in building successful relationships with consultants, creative agencies, and freelance partners
•    Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management
•    Self-motivated and independent, able to work with minimal supervision
•    Sensitivity to all aspects of branding 
•    Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
•    Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and build consensus
•    Ability and willingness to travel to other offices and client locations
