Sally J. Schmidt
Sally was a founder and the first President of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) (formerly called NALFMA). In 1994, she was inducted as a Fellow into the inaugural class of the College of Law Practice Management and is presently a trustee. In 2007, Sally was inducted into the Legal Marketing Association's first Hall of Fame and was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award.
A frequent industry presenter, Sally has spoken at more than 200 national and international seminars and conferences for the legal profession, including programs sponsored by The American Lawyer, The National Law Journal, Practising Law Institute, LMA, the ABA, and the Association of Legal Administrators. She also is currently an advisor for Attorney at Work, a new online program. Sally's articles have appeared in The National Law Journal, Marketing for Lawyers, The American Lawyer, Lexpert and other legal trade publications, and she has a bi-monthly column in the Law Practice magazine of the American Bar Association.
A former instructor at the University of Minnesota, teaching "Principles of Marketing," Sally is author of two books on law firm marketing: Marketing the Law Firm: Business Development Techniques (Law Journal Press, updated semi-annually); and Business Development for Lawyers: Strategies for Getting and Keeping Clients (ALM Publishing, 2006). She has also written three booklets: "What Clients Say: A Lawyer's Guide to Better Client Relations," "Thirty Strategies for Keeping Clients (Happy)," and "Client Relations: It's Everyone's Business."
