Description:

Godfrey & Kahn is seeking a Marketing Director to oversee the Firm’s overall marketing strategy, public and client relations, marketing communications, marketing training and internal communications efforts. The Director will guide the marketing efforts of practice, industry and specialty groups, offices and individual attorneys. This position will require a high-energy, self-motivated, innovative, persuasive and diplomatic professional. This individual must be detail-oriented, extremely organized, a team player, and able to work on multiple projects at one time.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct the development, coordination and implementation of all Firm marketing projects.
 
Direct the creation and distribution of all marketing collateral materials; website content; planning, execution and follow-up activities for seminars and special events; writing and distribution of Firm publications.

Oversee media relations efforts. Work with public relations consultant, Marketing Specialist and attorneys to identify opportunities, develop article leads, and edit attorney articles for publication. 

Oversee Firm’s electronic marketing efforts, including supervision of website design and maintenance. 

Work with Recruiting Committee and Diversity Committee to communicate key messages to recruits, employees and friends of the Firm. (Includes development and production of The Recruiter and Mosaic newsletters.) 

Support the Firm’s business development efforts, including researching and gathering information, as directed by attorneys, on clients, prospects and business sectors, and assisting attorneys in preparing legal services proposals, capabilities presentations and responses to RFPs. 

Assist attorneys in setting and achieving marketing goals. Facilitate and coordinate marketing strategies for the Firm, practice/industry/specialty groups, offices and individual attorneys. Work with them to establish and implement action plans. 

Develop and coordinate marketing and sales training programs to prepare attorneys for business development activity. 

Manage client feedback program. Coordinate and actively participate in client interviews (w/Managing Partner) to ascertain clients’ views about our services and service. Summarize and communicate this information to the billing attorneys and provide suggestions for how to address any issues. 

Monitor CRM system and promote its importance and use within the Firm. 

Find opportunities for attorneys to become involved on community boards, etc. Coordinate placement in these organizations. 

Serve as Firm’s marketing representative on the Private Enterprise Counsel and coordinate any Milwaukee meetings. 

Review and approve sponsorship requests with input from Team Leaders, Managing Partner and Marketing Committee Chair. 

Operations Responsibilities include: Staff quarterly Marketing Committee meetings; Prepare and monitor the Firm’s marketing and business development budget; Manage all marketing operations projects, including prioritization of staff workloads and delegation of responsibilities and tasks; Procure and direct the services of consultants retained to provide marketing-related services and supervise accordingly. 

Web Site Development: Strategize to make web site a more dynamic marketing tool and attract visitors to the site; Work closely with teams to provide information on a more regular basis. Overhaul the recruiting and diversity sections. 

Branding: Serve as liaison to outside provider to develop a brand for the Firm. Direct the ongoing execution of the branding campaign, including corporate identity issues, internal branding activities, website redesign issues and external advertisement programs. 

Internal Communications: Communicate the Firm’s progress toward achieving its goals set forth in the strategic plan; Develop a biannual or annual report for all employees that would communicate how Firm the is performing, highlight accomplishments, provide information on top industries we serve, highlight client relationships, etc.; Proactively secure information from teams about what they’re doing - trends, individual achievements, etc. Communicate internally and strategize to secure public relations if appropriate. 

CRMS: Work with attorneys and secretaries to make it a useful business development tool for the Firm via client and prospect information, mailing list applications, etc. 

Data Mining and Analysis: Work closely with Accounting, Library, Division Director(s) and other applicable functions; Analyze the Firm’s major clients to determine a trend in growth or decline in legal services - to help spot opportunities. Monitor such information as clients' industries and locations to provide support for the Firm when making decisions about which markets to pursue, which industry groups to develop, etc.; Create reference tool that includes pertinent information about our top clients. (Would include news articles, annual reports (if applicable), awards received, etc.); Monitor referral relationships via the new referral database; Identify/monitor business development activities of other law firms. (Develop a quarterly marketing directors roundtable with counterparts at competitor firms, accounting firms and banks as first step.); Work with Event Planner to track and analyze results of marketing efforts to determine cost effectiveness of initiatives (e.g., seminars). 

Planning: Proactively approach groups and teams to help them develop and implement their plans. Strategies would be consistent with the Firm's overall strategic plan: Develop and implement an institutional marketing plan consistent with the Firm's overall strategic plan. This includes, but is not limited to, the development and implementation of focused media relations and advertising campaigns.


Supervises: Marketing Specialist; Marketing Communications Specialist; Event Planner/Marketing Assistant.


Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess - 

Undergraduate degree in marketing, business or related field and a minimum of 4 years director/manager level experience. Prior experience in a professional services firm helpful, but not required. 

In-depth knowledge of marketing principles and practices. Experience developing and presenting new marketing activities and supporting on-going programs. 

Excellent project management skills including the ability to plan, prioritize and organize work effectively under time sensitive deadlines.

Proven ability to analyze data, recommend solutions and carry-out decisions.

Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills. Ability to work with internal and external partners and collaborate with individuals across the organization. 

Strong communication skills (listening, speaking, business writing/editing).

Prior experience working with electronic marketing efforts and contact relationship management systems.
