Description:

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (“Blakes”), one of Canada’s top business firms, is seeking candidates for the position of Manager of Business Development & Marketing for the firm’s U.S. offices. The successful candidate will join the firm's Business Development & Marketing Team and will be based in New York with day-to-day responsibilities for the New York and Chicago offices. The Manager will report to the partners in the New York and Chicago offices, as well as directly to the firm’s Chief Client Relations/Marketing Officer based in Toronto. The Manager will be expected to spend a minimum of one week per month in the Chicago office.


Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supporting the development, implementation and management of the business development and marketing strategy for the New York and Chicago offices’ and other strategic regions in the US.
• Working with the Marketing Communications team in the development of appropriate advertising strategies and identification of appropriate advertising placement, both nationally and for local markets in New York and Chicago.
• Supporting the U.S. business development and marketing efforts of our Canadian offices as the need arises, and liaising/acting as a resource for the Marketing Department on U.S. marketing and advertising matters.
• Managing the New York and Chicago offices’ client relationship database, as well as playing an active role in contributing to and maintaining the U.S. aspects of other firm-wide CRM/business development databases.
• Performing business development research/analysis (including client, industry and competitive intelligence) and assisting on business development initiatives.
• Preparing new business pitches and responses to RFP’s.
• Assisting in identifying U.S. press, speaking and writing opportunities for lawyers firm-wide, under the direction of the firm’s Manager of Public Relations.
• Writing, editing and updating New York and Chicago offices’ marketing materials and other U.S. related collateral material, including updating the relevant sections of the firm’s Web site.
• Acting as a liaison and principal point of contact for the U.S. offices for various organizations with which the firm partners on business development and marketing activities, e.g. ACC, conference organizers, legal publishers, etc.
• Identifying and organizing seminars, presentations, events and other sponsorship opportunities in New York and Chicago, and in other U.S. cities for lawyers firm-wide.
• Managing and monitoring the New York and Chicago offices’ marketing and advertising budgets.


Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum of five years related experience in a law firm environment is required.
• Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
• Strategic.
• Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team.
• A pragmatic "can do" approach.
• A solid track record of success in marketing/business development.
• Willingness to travel on a regular basis in the U.S. offices and to Blakes’ Canadian offices.
