The firm is seeking a Director of Marketing who will be responsible for all aspects of the firm’s marketing and client development efforts. This position will have primary responsibility for establishing, coordinating, implementing and maintaining programs that build awareness of the firm in its target markets. In addition, he or she will work closely with firm partners on strategies to develop or expand client relationships. The Director will work closely with firm leadership, including the Managing Partner, Executive Director and practice group leaders, to execute the firm’s marketing and client development objectives. Duties and Responsibilities:
• Working with firm leadership, defines the direction and guides the activities of the marketing department and other staff that work on marketing projects. • Budgets for and prioritizes activities to ensure cost-effective support for firm marketing and client development efforts and the efficient use of time and dollars. • Strengthens the firm’s reputation and brand externally and internally, and directs the firm’s public relations activities. • Acts as an internal advocate and catalyst on the importance of lawyers’ involvement in marketing and client development activities. • Implements training programs to support the firm’s marketing and client development culture and provide lawyers with practical skills. • Leads the activities of the Marketing Department: - Directs the development and production of information, materials and tools for marketing and client development purposes, including the CRM system, directory listings, Web site, proposals, seminars, client advisories, etc.; - Gathers and maintains current information on clients, prospects, competitors, market opportunities and service strategies; - Provides leadership for firm public relations activities, including directing the preparation of newsworthy information; and - Assists and facilitates the involvement of firm attorneys in community, professional, industry or other organizations that will enhance the visibility of those attorneys and the firm. • Determines and implements, in collaboration with the firm’s other related departments when necessary, technology and other requirements for client, contact and market intelligence/analysis and communications. • Provides strategic and consultative guidance to the lawyers on specific marketing and client development opportunities. Requirements:
• Minimum of ten years of experience in professional services marketing and client development • Bachelor’s Degree in a related area required; an MBA or advanced degree preferred• Proven ability as a professional services marketing and business-development strategist with a track record of demonstrated success • Understanding of the legal environment and the practice of law, while not absolutely required, would be a strong plus • Experienced in developing and implementing marketing and client development, communications and public relations programs • Ability to provide counsel on relationship building and business development skills • Experienced in negotiating with and managing outside support resources • Outstanding presentation and communication skills, both written and oral • Strong project management and supervisory skills; ability to manage people “up” and “down” the organizational chart • Substantive experience in applying technology to marketing and internal information sharing (e.g., Web sites, intranets, extranets, and client relationship management databases)
