Description:

Kleinberg Kaplan is a successful, growing and entrepreneurial NYC based mid-sized law firm looking for a strategic marketer to lead and oversee thorough refinement and implementation of the marketing and business development program. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who is willing to get deep into the details. The partners in this highly collaborative environment would like a peer who will offer guidance, give feedback and take ownership of the marketing program. The CMO reports to the Marketing Partner. Direct reports include a marketing coordinator and shared secretary.


Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working with the marketing partner, establish the firm’s strategic marketing direction and priorities
• Identify activities and opportunities to raise the profile of the firm in its niche practices
• Work closely with firm partners to identify and implement effective programs to build relationships and business
• Work closely with practice group chairs to establish and support each group’s marketing direction and priorities
• Establish marketing/business development metrics and tracking systems; report regularly to the partners, including at monthly partner meetings
• Assist in developing the marketing budget; manage and report regularly on the efficacy of specific expenditures (e.g., tickets)
• Evaluate the need and make recommendations for specific programs and resources (e.g., CRM)
• Research and make recommendations for firm marketing/business development activities (e.g., sponsorships, conferences, publicity, client events, etc.)
• Support the attorneys on their business development pitches and with their personal marketing plans and activities
• Direct the activities of and evaluate the relationships with outside vendors and service providers (e.g., consultants, PR firm, etc.)
• Manage and evaluate the marketing department staff; work with the staff to implement the firm’s marketing and business development activities (e.g., seminars, webinars, articles, research, website)


Requirements:

• Minimum of ten years of marketing management experience in a law firm setting
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a closely related field; MBA a plus but not required
• Outstanding oral and written communications skills
• Strategic
• Proactive and creative thinker with a can-do attitude
• Ability to organize and prioritize numerous activities
• Team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to build close, trusting relationships with lawyers, administrative staff and support staff members
• Proven record of accomplishment in managing a marketing department
• Excellent follow through; strong project management skills, tracking and reporting ability
• Willing to get hands dirty and be involved in day-to-day work
• Knowledge of the hedge fund industry a plus
• Strong familiarity with technology: PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
• Ethical; maintains confidences
• Confident and willing to challenge attorneys to improve marketing results
• Demonstrable experience in supervising a media strategy integrated with marketing and business development plans, a plus
